Milena tells us that "I saw a behaviour unfamiliar to me which was completely unexpected. The diademed tanager was at the loquat tree. I thought it would eat the fruits but I saw it sally to snatch an insect. After that, I took these two photos where it kept eating insects instead of fruits.
I mentioned this to an observer who proposed that since this is breeding time feeding needs require a high-protein diet and they turn to insects since they are highly nutritional".
Following the thread of reasoning this individual should be a female (the diademed tanager shows no dichromatism) which is the one that invests energy to produce eggs.
We have been watching a flock of chestnut-capped blackbirds, but not this big
New bird species
A resident of forests, savannas and gallery forests of the center-north appeared in the reserve. The bill almost entirely black only with a rosy base, rufous edgings on primaries and the rufous edges of rectrices tell this bird apart from the Swainson's flycatcher, which is coming to the reserve to spend the summer.
