Along with Gonzalo Díaz we found this dead cuckoo (recently dead since it was not rigid) lying below one of the windows of the Visitors' Center. At the moment we realized there was a plant behind the window and we believed the cuckoo tried to fly to the plant and crashed against the window. Gonzalo informed the Recs staff about it so that measures to prevent further accidents should be taken.
We ran into Graciela Neira and her group, who told us there was an ash-coloured cuckoo singing at the Meeting Point. There we heard it sing and started to look for it. The voice seemed to be sometimes nearer sometimes farther. So we followed the song to find this evasive cuckoo. Luckily Gonzalo spotted it and we barely had time to catch a glimpse of this bird. It flew away and disappeared.
This time the kiskadee has surprised us. It is the first time it is registered nesting inside a lamp. It is known that big holes or half destroyed nests of other birds may be used for the purpose. Here the kiskadee decided on a lamp.
The kiskadee nests in the reserve and we detect several nests every year. They are rounded and placed relatively high in trees. The nests may be striking and look untidy since they use colourful strings or pieces of plastic.
