The records of this egret are mainly on the wing across the reserve. But they landed in the pond. Heads popped on and off as they bent in search for food. We counted 6 individuals

Diaphania nitidalis
Barrenador de pepinos/Pickleworm13-5-18 © Guillermo Costa
Belongs to the family Crambidae, subfamily Pyraustinae. The adults are nocturnal. This species is considered a pest of the Cucurbits since the larvae feed on shoots and flowers weakening the plant. They also burrow into the fruit exposing it to illnesses.

The easiest of the three ponds to be photographed due to the viewpoints which provide a full view. The photos were taken along the Lizard Path from the Brasil end towards the Middle Path. The patches of water are near the edge, but water does not reach the path.
Laguna Patos/Duck Pond12-5-18 © Cora Rimoldi
It seems water covers the pond but emerging vegetation still stands. The biggest water mirror is very far.
The Gull Pond Laguna Gaviotas/Gull Pond12-5-18 © Cora Rimoldi
This pond presents a more advanced state than the Duck Pond's similar to the previous recovery. The water mirror is far more extended though patches of vegetation can be seen
The Grebe Pond Laguna Macaes/Grebe Pond12-5-18 © Cora Rimoldi
Seen from the Middle Path and also dry shows now an important water mirror.

After a marked drought which dried the ponds, the rainfall finally arrived in earnest. Since a month ago the bad weather has practically hindered the access to the reserve during the weekends. We can only walk along the sidewalk and capture birds at Coypu Pond either visually or aurally.
Diego Bastías told us that there was a water mirror in the inner pond with black-necked swans. In Alec's photo an extended area of water can be seen at the Gull Pond, whereas at the Duck Pond there seems to be only a "puddle" of water. Quite promising but there is still a lot to fill.
