Typical posture of a woodpecker when pressing the tail against a trunk as a supporting point. In this way it supports its weight more easily y keeps the body separated from the trunk. The tail of this woodpecker is rigid and pointed. The arrangement of the toes (two forward and two backwards - zygodctyl foot) also helps to grasp much more tightly from the trunks.

Guille Spajic says that "one gets the feeling that this is a streaked prochilid Prochilodus lineatus, but it is impossible to ascertain with no other details. There is reasonable doubt to think this might be a carp -though I do not think so- since no other fins (basically the dorsal one) nor the head are seen. Being dead makes identification even more difficult. I am 80% sure this is a streaked prochilid"

Guille Iván Spajic tells us that "this tiger-heron has a characin, most certainly Oligosarcus oligolepis because the tail fin is very forked. But there are many species of characins, so we'd better leave it as Oligosarcus sp."

As the walk began a kingfisher flew past. Hoping it would be the amazon kingfisher, we went after it. It turned out to be this male green kingfisher
