Florida red-bellied turtle - Pseudemys nelsoni

Order Testudines
Family Emydidae
Native to USA, endemic to Florida and the south of Georgia. It has two cusps on the upper beak which are typical of red-bellied Pseudemys. Nevertheless, the broad orange stripes on the carapace along with a yellower plastron define it as Pseudemys nelsoni. Another characteristic are the broad yellow lines on the skin which contrast with the black background.
It has become very common in the worldwide pet trade since the importation of the red-eared turtle Trachemys scripta was restricted or prohibited
