CeiboErythrina crista-galliUnlike wasps and bees, the carpenter bee Xylocopa sp looks for opening buds. Ceibo buds look like a tamal. A small opening is enough to insert the front legs and tear it open. In search for nectar it rubs the stamens and becomes coated with pollen which is transferred to other flowers on its route. In this way it contributes to pollination.© Roberto Ares
