Breeding

Nests in cavities. We found this bird investingating the woodpecker's nest., but we do not know what turned out. We have very little information about the reproduction of this psittacid in the reserve. In 2017 for the first time we saw an adult feeding a fledgeling. Ñanday/Nenday Parakeet© Sergio Piazza
Diet
Undoubtedly its favourite food are the seeds of the white cedar Melia azedarach. Always in groups they settle in a tree to feed. The toe arrangement, two oriented backwards and the other two forwards, gives a good grip, which helps manipulate food easily. Unlike Monk Parakeets, Nenday Parakeets have never been seen eating "chunk food" from the foodstands.
