Order Hemiptera
Family Cicadidae
Cicadas are dark brown or green and blunt-headed. It is very familiar to hear the monotonous sound emitted by males through abdominal organs. It is said to announce hot weather. The females use their ovipositors to cut an opening in trees and shrubs to lay eggs. When hatched, the larvae drop to the ground and bury themselves. When they emerge, they climb up trunks for the final moult. They cast off their shed, (exuvia) which is abandoned on the trees.
